School Daze
Journal Entry #1
Yesterday at school, Mr. Benvineste, our English teacher, gave us all journals. For the rest of the semester, we have to write one entry every week. When my principal, Mr. Persons, heard about the assignment, he gave me an idea for my first entry. Instead of detention, he told me to write down my morning routine. Maybe then I could figure out how to be on time for class. I wasn't really interested in the assignment, but I'll do anything to avoid spending an hour alone with Mr. Persons.
My daily routine goes as follows:
7:00 a.m. - My mom wakes me up gently for school.
7:02 a.m. - I fall back asleep.
7:15 a.m. - My mom comes back to wake me up again. This time not so gently.
7:20 a.m. - I finally get out of bed.
7:21 a.m. - I do my morning stretch.
7:26 a.m. - I think about how much I don't want to go to school today.
7:30 a.m. - I regret waking up this morning.
7:32 a.m. - I brush my teeth while contemplating how I can get out of going to school.
7:37 a.m. - I take a long hot shower.
7:47 a.m. - After getting out of the shower, I sit on the bathtub ledge and think about all the things I would rather do instead of going to school today:
Sleep
Watch TV all day
Take a nap
Play basketball
Lay down and close my eyes
7:50 a.m. - I get dressed as my mom and dad yell from the other room that I need to hurry up because I'm going to be late for school.
7:55 a.m. - I realize I am going to be late for school.
8:00 a.m. - I stand in the kitchen and think about what to eat for breakfast.
8:02 a.m. - I decide on Captain Crunch.
8:05 a.m. - I choke because I’m stuffing my cereal down my throat and drinking the milk at the same time.
8:07 a.m. - My dad pushes me out the door.
8:15 a.m. - I wait for the bus.
8:20 a.m. - I am on the bus.
8:25 a.m. - I fall asleep on the bus.
8:30 a.m. - I wake up and realize I missed my stop.
8:32 a.m. - I get off the bus.
8:33 a.m. - I walk to school.
8:35 a.m. - I stop at the store, even though I know I shouldn’t.
8:36 a.m. - I decide on my snack for the day and pay the cashier.
8:38 a.m. - I continue walking to school.
8:40 a.m. - I get distracted watching some kids play basketball in the park. Oh, how I wish I could join them.
8:45 a.m. - I continue walking to school.
8:50 a.m. - I get to school and see that it’s empty outside except for Principal Persons standing on the top of the school steps.
8:52 a.m. - I am told I am late.
8:53 a.m. - I get a lecture on punctuality.
8:55 a.m. - I am officially given detention.
9:00 a.m. - I finally go into the school and walk to class.
After writing this journal entry, I realized there's no way I can make it to school on time. I don’t know what I could do differently. This journal exercise has not helped me in any way.
